email.<\/strong><\/span><\/h2>\n<h2><strong><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\">You may also respond to your summons via our Juror Web Portal.\u00a0 You will be able to update your personal information, opt in for Email notifications, upload necessary documents, Opt In for Jury Service, Request a Postponement, or Submit a request to be excused.\u00a0 If you are logging in to our Web Portal you will use the 7-digit number beneath the barcode along with your last name in ALL CAPS.\u00a0 A link to the web portal is directly below.<\/span><\/strong><\/h2>\n<h2><strong><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><a style=\"color: #0000ff;\" href=\"http:\/\/juryservice.hamiltoncountycourts.org\">JUROR WEB PORTAL<\/a><\/span><\/strong><\/h2>\n<h2><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><strong>Juror Excuses Explained<\/strong><\/span><\/h2>\n<p>The jury questionnaire that you received is your official summons for jury duty.\u00a0 You will need to appear on the date and time specified on your questionnaire.\u00a0 If there is no reason why you cannot appear on that date simply fill out your phone numbers, sign and date the summons, and return the questionnaire to our office.\u00a0 If you have question about the ability to be excused please see below for more information.\u00a0 Please note that any request to be excused\/postponed must include your 6 or 7 digit juror number which is located below the bar code on your original summons.<\/p>\n<h2><strong>Mandatory Excuses:<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p><strong>Age<\/strong>:\u00a0\u00a0 If you are over the age of 75 and you wish to be excused, we are required by Law to excuse you.\u00a0 Please check the appropriate box and return the summons with verification of your age.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Served in the last 2 Years<\/strong>: \u00a0If you have served on jury duty in Hamilton County within the last two years, and you wish to be excused, we are required to grant this request.\u00a0 If this box is checked we will verify the last date of your jury service in our computer and excuse you if applicable.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Out of County<\/strong>:\u00a0 If you are no longer a resident of Hamilton County you are ineligible to serve on a jury in Hamilton County.\u00a0 In order to be excused you must reply to this summons and send verification of your out of county address.\u00a0 Verification includes, but is not limited to: Copy of Id card\/drivers license, copy of utility bill, copy of rental\/purchase agreement.<\/p>\n<h2><\/h2>\n<h2><strong>Optional excuses:<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p><strong>Employment Issues<\/strong>:\u00a0 To be excused from jury service because your employer <strong>will not compensate you<\/strong> for time spent on jury service, you must submit a letter of verification from your employer on company letterhead.\u00a0 The letter must indicate that it is company policy not to compensate employees while serving on jury duty.<\/p>\n<p>To be excused from jury service because <strong>you are self employed<\/strong> you must write a letter on company letterhead stating that it would be a hardship for you and your business to serve on jury duty.\u00a0 You may also submit a business card or a copy of your most recent Tax Filings that show your self employment income.\u00a0 You will not need to give us your SSN or EIN.\u00a0 Those numbers can be redacted.<\/p>\n<p>You will receive a postcard from the Jury Commission Office either granting or denying your request.\u00a0 If you have not received a notification with regard to your request on the Thursday prior to the a student you must submit a document that verifies you are a student who is currently enrolled.\u00a0 This can be a copy of your current class schedule that shows you are currently taking classes.\u00a0 If you do not have access to online schedules you may also obtain a letter from the school in which you are enrolled.\u00a0 DO NOT submit a copy of your schools calendar of events.\u00a0 You will receive a postcard from the Jury Commission Office either granting or denying your request.\u00a0 If you have not received a notification with regard to your request on the Thursday prior to the date on your summons please contact the Jury Commission Office to check on the status of your request.\u00a0 We can be reached Monday thru Friday from 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. from jury service because of <strong>medical reasons<\/strong> you must submit a letter from a medical professional stating that you will not be able to serve on jury duty.\u00a0 If this issue is of a chronic nature please ask the medical professional to indicate that on the summons.<\/p>\n<p>If you are the <strong>care provider to an elderly parent or child<\/strong> you must submit a letter from their doctor that identifies that person as needing your consistent care or supervision.<\/p>\n<p>You will receive a postcard from the Jury Commission Office either granting or denying your request.\u00a0 If you have not received a notification with regard to your request on the Thursday prior to the date on your summons please contact the Jury Commission Office to check on the status of during this time.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Prior Felonies<\/strong>:\u00a0 Jurors who have prior felony convictions are eligible to serve on jury duty provided that they are no longer incarcerated or on their period of probation\/community control.\u00a0 If you wish to be excused based on a past felony conviction the Jury Commission Office will consider your request.\u00a0 Your request to be excused must be accompanied by verification of the felony conviction.\u00a0 If you don\u2019t have any records in your possession the best place to go would be the Clerk of Courts of the place where the felony conviction occurred.\u00a0 You will receive a postcard from the Jury Commission Office either granting or denying your request. If you have not received a notification with regard to your request on the Thursday prior to the date on your summons please contact the Jury Commission Office to check on the status of your request.\u00a0 We can be reached Monday thru Friday from 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. excluding holidays at 513-946-5879.\u00a0 Hit \"0\" on your phones numeric dial pad to skip the automated message during this time.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Military Service:\u00a0<\/strong>If you are currently serving on active duty in the military in any capacity and you are unable to participate in Jury Service please contact (you or another member of your family if you are unable) the Jury Commission Office during our indicated hours on your summons at 513-946-5879 and select \"0\" or your phones numeric dial pad to skip the automated message system.\u00a0 Do to the potentially sensitive nature of your military orders it is easier to have a phone conversation about what you need to present to be excused so that you do not need to give out that information.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Stay at Home Parent:\u00a0\u00a0<\/strong>Please contact the Jury Commission Office via telephone during our indicated hours on your summons at 513-946-5879 and select \"0\" or your phones numeric dial pad to skip the automated message system to inquire about the potential ability to be excused.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Mothers of a Newborn\/Nursing Mothers:\u00a0 <\/strong>Please contact the Jury Commission Office via telephone during our indicated hours on your summons at 513-946-5879 and select \"0\" or your phones numeric dial pad to skip the automated message system to inquire about the potential ability to be excused.<\/p>\n<h2><strong>Postponements:<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p>Ohio law allows you a one-time postponement of your jury service.
