This program checks the Ohio Bureau of Motor Vehicle (BMV) records for the individual andadvises them on what steps they need to take to secure a valid driver’s license. The LIP is not available to persons with current charges of OVI or individuals currently incarcerated.

How LIP Works

When a person appears in court for an issue regarding their driver’s license, the Judge assesses whether a referral to the LIP will help the individual resolve the problem. If so, the individual will be asked if they would like to participate in the LIP. If so, the Judge may refer the individual to the LIP. Once referred, a LIP officer will check the individual's BMV record. The LIP officer will instruct the individual as to the steps they need to take to correct the issues with their driver’s license and give the individual a reasonable time period to take these steps to comply. The officer then submits a brief report to the Office of the Prosecuting Attorney. This report is available to the individual and the individual's attorney. If the report indicates the individual needs to take steps to restore driving privileges, such as paying a reinstatement fee, and the individual has taken these steps, the Judge will take this into consideration when making their decision regarding the current case.

["post-2493","page","type-page","status-publish","hentry
["GET
